SECOND PRECINCT

Several Second Precinct supervisors and officers participated in the “Pancakes for Police” event that was held at and sponsored by Liberty Tax Service. This was the manager’s way of showing appreciation for those who serve and protect the community. Second Precinct Honor Guard officers lead a joint detail with Oscar Smith High School Honor Guard in the presentation of colors for the Martin Luther King breakfast which was hosted at the Marriott Hotel in Chesapeake. The Second Precinct continues to aid the CAST Program (Chesapeake Area Shelter Team) and remains to be the only pickup location for the homeless who are transported to a church providing a meal and overnight shelter. Second Precinct Officers attended the South Norfolk Neighborhood Watch meeting and (4) civic league meetings during this reporting period: Campostella, Sunrise Hills, Queen City, and West Munden.

Second Precinct Officers continue with a special patrol of the Historic District and remain active within the precinct’s surrounding communities. Officers on special patrol interacted with 227 citizens, attended 21 service calls, conducted 1 foot patrol, conducted 4 field interviews, issued 22 traffic summonses and made 33 arrests. Second Precinct Officers also participated in a special operation on bikes, which allowed officers to maintain positive interactions with numerous citizens. While on bikes, officers made contact with 101 citizens, conducted 1 field interview, handled 7 calls for service, issued 7 traffic summonses and made 4 arrests.

Residents within the Second Precinct’s jurisdiction continue to assist the police by reporting crimes and potential violations. The Second Precinct answered several Customer Service Requests which involved abandoned vehicles parked on city streets and a report of no tags on a vehicles. Second Precinct Officers communicated with residents and business owners to address and resolve various concerns.

The Tow Officer continues to tag vehicles as reported. A total of 74 vehicles were tagged, 12 vehicles towed, and 56 parking tickets were issued during this reporting period
